About this fellowship
<p data-start="103" data-end="493">The <strong data-start="107" data-end="146">Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG)</strong> in Barcelona, Spain, is offering <strong data-start="180" data-end="278">10 fellowship opportunities for undergraduate and MSc students for the 2026/2027 academic year</strong>. The opportunities are designed for motivated students who want to gain hands-on research experience in an international scientific environment and develop skills relevant to future scientific and research careers.</p>
<p data-start="495" data-end="691">The CRG brings together international research teams working across genomics, molecular biology, computational biology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, evolution and other related disciplines.</p>

<p data-start="940" data-end="1124">These fellowships provide students with the opportunity to join a CRG research group and contribute to a specific scientific project while receiving supervision and practical training.</p>

<h2 data-section-id="1azz8hv" data-start="2124" data-end="2154">Available Research Projects</h2>
<h3 data-section-id="g12goq" data-start="2156" data-end="2209">1. Proteomics – Development of LC-MS/MS Workflows</h3>
<p data-start="2211" data-end="2489">This Master’s-level project focuses on developing robust workflows for <strong data-start="2282" data-end="2332">proteoform characterization in liquid biopsies</strong>. Students will gain experience in sample preparation, protein digestion, peptide clean-up, LC-MS/MS, experimental design, quality control and data analysis.</p>
<p data-start="2491" data-end="2625">It is particularly suitable for students in <strong data-start="2535" data-end="2624">biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences or related fields</strong>.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="1jfgq4o" data-start="2627" data-end="2686">2. Regulatory Genomics and Diabetes – CRISPRi Screening</h3>
<p data-start="2688" data-end="2884">This undergraduate project investigates <strong data-start="2728" data-end="2792">CRISPR interference screening in human pancreatic beta cells</strong>, with applications to understanding and improving potential treatments for Type 1 diabetes.</p>
<p data-start="2886" data-end="3012">Students will receive training in molecular cloning, lentiviral production, cell culture and single-cell sequencing workflows.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="1vdv9hr" data-start="3014" data-end="3055">3. Single-Cell Genomics and Evolution</h3>
<p data-start="3057" data-end="3179">This computational project compares methods for integrating genome-wide expression data across developmental trajectories.</p>
<p data-start="3181" data-end="3365">Applicants should have a background in <strong data-start="3220" data-end="3237">life sciences</strong>, with an interest in genomics, bioinformatics or computational biology. Basic <strong data-start="3316" data-end="3344">Bash/Linux, R and Python</strong> skills are expected.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="xeu8o" data-start="3367" data-end="3436">4. Systems and Synthetic Biology – CpG Organisation and Longevity</h3>
<p data-start="3438" data-end="3616">This four-month computational project examines the relationship between <strong data-start="3510" data-end="3562">CpG spatial organisation and mammalian longevity</strong> using comparative genomics and statistical modelling.</p>
<p data-start="3618" data-end="3753">It is suitable for BSc or MSc students interested in <strong data-start="3671" data-end="3752">bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, evolution or ageing research</strong>.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="qchlpu" data-start="3755" data-end="3812">5. Reprogramming and Regeneration – Chromatin Folding</h3>
<p data-start="3814" data-end="3984">Students will investigate how depletion of TOP2A or TOP2B affects chromatin organisation in human cells using <strong data-start="3924" data-end="3983">Optical Reconstruction of Chromatin Architecture (ORCA)</strong>.</p>
<p data-start="3986" data-end="4195">The project is suitable for motivated undergraduate students interested in molecular biology, cell biology, microscopy or quantitative biology. Previous ORCA or advanced programming experience is not required.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="120m7cl" data-start="4197" data-end="4238">6. Cell Fate Decoding and Engineering</h3>
<p data-start="4240" data-end="4409">This project investigates <strong data-start="4266" data-end="4314">neuronal diversity and cell fate engineering</strong> using transcription factors, molecular cloning, lentiviral vectors and mammalian cell culture.</p>
<p data-start="4411" data-end="4562">Students from different backgrounds can apply, as training will be provided. Motivation, curiosity and willingness to learn are particularly important.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="1jn5osf" data-start="4564" data-end="4614">7. Probabilistic Machine Learning and Genomics</h3>
<p data-start="4616" data-end="4812">This Master’s-level computational project combines <strong data-start="4667" data-end="4748">protein language models, protein folding, human genetics and machine learning</strong> to investigate the mechanisms behind missense genetic variants.</p>
<p data-start="4814" data-end="5015">Applicants should have a background in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, physics, mathematics or a related quantitative discipline. <strong data-start="4969" data-end="5015">Python programming experience is expected.</strong></p>
<h3 data-section-id="14goss9" data-start="5017" data-end="5079">8. Systems and Synthetic Biology – Genotype-Phenotype Maps</h3>
<p data-start="5081" data-end="5241">This project uses computational approaches to investigate how <strong data-start="5143" data-end="5240">environmental changes influence genotype-phenotype relationships and evolutionary simulations</strong>.</p>
<p data-start="5243" data-end="5403">It is particularly suited to students with backgrounds in physics, computer science, biology or bioinformatics who are interested in interdisciplinary research.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="l41zns" data-start="5405" data-end="5453">9. Computational Biology and Health Genomics</h3>
<p data-start="5455" data-end="5596">Students will analyse structural variants identified through long-read sequencing and investigate their potential effects on gene regulation.</p>
<p data-start="5598" data-end="5731">Applicants should have skills in <strong data-start="5631" data-end="5663">Python and Bash/command line</strong>, alongside knowledge of molecular biology, statistics and genomics.</p>
<h3 data-section-id="df22yj" data-start="5733" data-end="5783">10. Evolutionary Processes Modeling and Cancer</h3>
<p data-start="5785" data-end="5929">This computational project explores how genetic and evolutionary factors influence the <strong data-start="5872" data-end="5928">immunogenic potential of cancer-associated mutations</strong>.</p>
