Freelance Mobile Platform Engineer

<p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>About Foundation</strong></p><p style="min-height:1.5em">Foundation is responsible for the technical base that Knowunity's product teams build on. Our work is measured by its effect on the rest of engineering: reliable systems, sound architecture, and tooling that let product teams focus on their features rather than the underlying infrastructure.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Our areas of ownership:</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">The Flutter mobile app foundation - shared components and design system, app architecture, state management, and performance.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">The core backend in Go - the shared services and conventions that product features are built on.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Infrastructure and delivery - CI/CD, store distribution, release tooling, and the feedback loops between writing code and shipping it.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Developer experience - the internal tooling and standards that keep the wider organisation productive.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Agentic and AI infrastructure - how AI tooling is integrated into our codebase and workflows today, and how it will factor into the product over time.</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em">We are looking for a freelance Mobile Platform Engineer to help shape and maintain this foundation. The role's focus is the mobile app, but we expect genuine interest in the full scope of Foundation's work - the team's value comes from its leverage across all of these areas, not from any single features.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>The engagement</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Contract basis, open to full-time or part-time weekly commitment depending on your availability.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Initial engagement with scope to extend based on fit and pipeline of work.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">You'll plug into an existing team, so we're looking for someone who can get productive quickly and work independently with light coordination.</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Mobile foundation. Own the core of our Flutter app: shared components, the design system, performance, and tooling.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Architecture. Define how we build features - the patterns we use, how we manage state, and how the app integrates with backend services - and guide product teams in applying them.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Developer experience. Improve the end-to-end developer workflow, from CI/CD and store distribution to internal tooling and faster feedback loops. Remove the recurring friction that slows other teams down.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Agentic and AI infrastructure. Integrate AI tooling into our codebase and workflows, and help determine its role in the product. A research background is not required, but a serious interest in agents as an engineering discipline is.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Maintenance and reliability. Alongside new work, keep the existing foundation healthy and dependable, so product teams can build on it with confidence.</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Your Background</strong></p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Several years of experience delivering production software at scale, ideally including responsibility for the architecture of a mobile application.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Strong, multi year experience in building mobile apps with Flutter and Dart.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Solid mobile DevOps experience - CI/CD, store distribution, and release management.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">A genuine interest in AI as an engineering surface; curiosity matters more than formal background.</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">A preference for improving the systems that slow others down.
