Senior Java Developer - Contractor

<p class="MsoNormal"><strong>3 days per week on site in Sheffield</strong></p><p class="MsoNormal"><strong>Initial 6 Months Contract</strong></p><p><strong>£500-£550 p/d</strong></p><p style="min-height: 1.7em;"></p><p class="MsoNormal">As a Senior Java Developer, you will manage the team and contribute to the design and development of end‑to‑end solutions, working across the full technology stack and playing an active role in the continued evolution of a business‑critical platform.</p><p style="min-height: 1.7em;"></p><p class="MsoNormal">Joining a Global team and working collaboratively to deliver a modern and scalable platform. The team is focused on building new micro services as part of an ongoing programme to modernise the existing architecture and progressively decommission legacy systems.</p> <br> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li><p>Deliver high‑quality code into production, supporting the design and evolution of a microservices‑based architecture.</p></li><li><p>Set the pace for delivery across the team, leading by example through consistent and reliable output.</p></li><li><p>Engage closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into clear, actionable direction for the team.</p></li><li><p>Contribute ideas and solutions informed by a strong understanding of the wider platform and delivery context.</p></li><li><p>Help shape a strong, collaborative engineering culture across global teams.</p></li><li><p>Proactively manage risks, remove blockers and improve processes to support effective delivery.</p></li></ul><p class="MsoNormal" style="min-height: 1.7em;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><strong>Required Skills &amp; Experience</strong></p><ul><li><p>Experience in software engineering, with a strong track record of designing, building and deploying backend services to production, alongside influencing engineering ways of working and delivery culture.</p></li><li><p>Strong hands‑on development experience with Java, ideally using recent language versions and modern frameworks.</p></li><li><p>Experience working with containerisation and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes, including deployment within cloud environments (for example, GCP).</p></li><li><p>Experience developing modern user interfaces using React or similar frameworks.</p></li><li><p>Experience planning and delivering data migrations between technology stacks (for example, migrating from MongoDB to PostgreSQL).</p></li><li><p>Proven experience designing microservices and contributing to wider microservice‑based architectures, with a focus on scalability, resilience and maintainability.</p></li><li><p>Strong grounding in CI/CD principles and practices, with hands‑on experience driving automated build, test and deployment pipelines.</p></li><li><p>Experience designing, building and supporting RESTful APIs in production environments.</p></li><li><p>Experience designing schemas and working with PostgreSQL databases in production settings.</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>Prior experience within the financial services sector, ideally within a banking or regulated environment.</p></li><li><p>Experience leading teams to deliver frequent, reliable production releases, setting expectations around quality and delivery cadence.</p></li></ul><p class="MsoNormal" style="min-height: 1.7em;"></p><p class="MsoNormal"><strong>How We Work:</strong></p><p class="MsoNormal">Delta Capita is an equal opportunity employer.
