Simulation Model Engineer

<p style="min-height:1.5em">Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em">To support this ambitious goal, we are seeking a HiL Software Developer to join our Avionics Test Team in Munich. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and validation of software models and tooling used in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing activities for Nyx avionics systems.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em">You will play a key role in developing high-fidelity simulation environments and integrating software models into National Instruments-based test infrastructures, working closely with GNC, Flight Software, Avionics, and Mission Operations teams to support verification and validation campaigns.</p><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><p style="min-height:1.5em">In your role as HiL Software Developer, you will:</p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Design, implement, and test C++-based software models for Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing of Nyx avionics systems</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Develop and maintain software tooling supporting simulation and test activities</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Integrate software models into National Instruments hardware infrastructures</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Collaborate with GNC, Flight Software, Avionics, and Mission Operations teams to ensure the required level of model fidelity</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Support and participate in verification and validation test campaigns</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Contribute to debugging, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of simulation and test environments</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Create and maintain technical documentation related to software models, test setups, and development processes</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><h2>You and your team will be in charge of:</h2><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Developing and maintaining software simulation models supporting avionics verification activities</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Ensuring accurate representation of system behavior within HiL environments</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Integrating simulation software with National Instruments test platforms</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Supporting system-level validation through participation in test campaigns</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Collaborating across engineering disciplines to ensure consistency between simulation models and system requirements</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Contributing to the continuous evolution of our HiL infrastructure, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, and maintainability</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Ensuring software quality through structured development, testing, and validation processes</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><h2>Must-Have Skills and Qualifications</h2><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Proficiency in Python and C/C++</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience in software development for simulation, testing, or embedded systems</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Familiarity with software testing methodologies and simulation tools</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines, drive initiatives, and deliver in a high-paced environment</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><h2>Nice-to-Have Skills</h2><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with LabVIEW</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing environments</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Familiarity with National Instruments hardware and software ecosystems</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with Bazel</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build systems</p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">Knowledge of aerospace, avionics, or space systems development environments</p></li></ul><p style="min-height:1.5em"></p><p style="min-height:1.5em"><strong>Why you should join us!</strong></p><p style="min-height:1.5em">What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:  </p><ul style="min-height:1.5em"><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind </p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them  </p></li><li><p style="min-height:1.5em">We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space.
